Baltimore Bridge Collapse Update: Emergency Declaration Extension Issued by FMCSA

Francis Scott Key Bridge News and Updates At approximately 1:30 a.m. ET on March 26, 2024, a cargo ship leaving the Port of Baltimore in Baltimore, MD struck the (I-695) Francis Scott Key Bridge. On Wednesday, April 10th, 2024, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration hosted an information session with stakeholders across the trucking industry.  The session provided additional information on how the Agency’s emergency relief following the tragic collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, MD applies to motor carriers and commercial motor vehicle drivers. 

FMCSA Declares Texas-licensed Driver an Imminent Hazard to Public Safety

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has declared Texas-licensed commercial driver Jerry Hernandez to be an imminent hazard to public safety and ordered him to immediately cease operating any commercial motor vehicle (CMV) in interstate or intrastate commerce. Hernandez was served the Federal order on March 29, 2024.

FMCSA Declares West Virginia-Licensed Driver an Imminent Hazard to Public Safety (Jeffrey Brannon - March 14, 2024)

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has declared West Virginia-licensed commercial driver Jeffrey Brannon to be an imminent hazard to public safety and ordered him to immediately cease operating any commercial motor vehicle (CMV) in interstate or intrastate commerce.  Brannon was served the Federal order on March 13, 2024.

Statement on the Departure of Administrator Robin Hutcheson

Today, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration announced the departure of Administrator Robin Hutcheson. Hutcheson, who joined the Biden-Harris Administration in Jan. 2021, will depart the agency on Jan. 26. Sue Lawless, FMCSA Executive Director and Chief Safety Officer, will serve as Acting Deputy Administrator and lead the agency.

FMCSA has placed these ELDs on the Revoked Devices list due to the providers’ failure to meet the minimum requirements established in 49 CFR part 395, subpart B, appendix A, effective September 14, 2023.
